Couponing Tidbit for Publix Shopping

Did you know…

…that when the cashier has finished ringing up all of your items and scanning all of your paper coupons (because, of course, you couponed couponsbefore going grocery shopping, right?!), you should type in your phone number  on the card reader before you make payment to have any available digital coupons applied??  “What!!” you exclaim.  Yes, that card reader is there for more than just taking your money… it also helps you save money!

OK, obviously the system does not have everyone’s phone number memorized to ID us, so there is a little preparation involved.  First, head on over to www.Publix.com and create an account.  This is how the reader knows who you are based on your phone number.  Nope, it’s true, the government, nor any Publix officials, are stalking you.

All right, you have an account of your very own, now what do you do?  Scroll on over to Savings and click onCoupons (this is also a good place to read about Publix’s coupon policy).  From here, select Get Digital Coupons and you will be delivered to a whole world of coupons!  This is where some of the prep work comes in, but it is so much better than having to cut all of them out in addition to your coupons.

Start digitally clip-clip-clipping away to your heart’s content!  I tend to clip them all, rather than try to sort through them.  It’s easier and you never know when you may babyneed to buy diapers, even if there is no baby in your near future… (no, that’s not a  hint, dear!)

So, back to the store.  You’re on your beloved grocery shopping trip and all of your items and paper coupons are scanned, now type in your phone number before paying!  The cashier needs to hit some magic button on their keyboard, then POOF!! The screen will say “Customer ID accepted.”  Thumbs-Up-Circle  The Coupon Angels start singing, and if you have shopped well, more coupon discounts will be applied, which means more money saved.  Cha-ching!

Now, I know you will be doing a happy dance, but if you’re anything like me, it is likely the customers in line behind you dancewill not be impressed with your dance skills (nor will the people watching the security cameras).  Besides, you need to take a quick break to pay.  Swipe your card or hand them the cash quick so you can get out of there with your loot.  After receiving your looonngg receipt (because of all of the coupon entries on there), you can dance your way out of the store.

money and run

By the way, this also works at Dollar General, and a similar process at Walgreens, CVS and Winn Dixie.  For the latter three, the coupons are loaded on to your rewards card, which is associated with your phone number.
