Wear Rx Glasses? This Tip is for You!

Time to save money on Rx glasses!

Recently, after much prodding by my husband, I finally had an eye exam (first time as an adult I have ever gotten one).  Of course, it took me 11.75 months after I started my vision insurance to do it.  Procrastinate much?!  Either way, I don’t need glasses to see close up, which was my fear, but the eye doctor recommended I get a pair for distance (driving and movies).  This didn’t worry me near as much, although I don’t really know why, other than maybe because I don’t need them for my daily job (working on a computer).

Blah, blah, blah… you want the goods, I know, I know.  So, my husband has worn glasses pretty much all of his life (bifocal, progressive lenses) and now I need some.  His last experience purchasing a pair cost us quite a bit of money just for one set of daily glasses—not even for sunglasses!  This was even after insurance and trying a Groupon deal.  Ugh, I hate spending a lot of money, but what can you do?  He needs to be able to see, and now I need to be able to see well, too.  Recently, a friend mentioned she bought her new pair of glasses from an online website for super cheap and no insurance needed… whaaat?? Pray tell!

Wait for it… and the answer is: ZENNI OPTICAL!!  We decided to give it a shot.  What did we have to lose?  Definitely not a whole lot of money compared to what we have been spending for glasses up to this point, plus now I need some.  And you know what?!  We won!  Big score!!!  I bought a pair of glasses for $27 and my husband bought a pair of glasses for $51.  The majority of glasses he has bought in the past have been $150+ (even with insurance), and I can promise you he doesn’t pick super special designer glasses (as a friend recently said, ‘why are some of these designer glasses even a thing?’).  As an experiment, I bought another pair of glasses from my vision insurance page (i.e. an eyeglass place) to compare the two pairs of glasses to see if I was losing quality.  The same name brand glasses I bought compared to my Zenni glasses have zero difference in the quality of vision.  My husband actually likes his Zennis better than his super expensive glasses-comfort, quality and vision. Oh, Zenni, where have you been all of our life??  I actually just received my new pair of Rx sunglasses today ($37, I upgraded a couple features), yesss!

It’s so easy for you to take advantage of the savings!  First step is to get a copy of your Rx (just ask your eye doctor or the last place you had an exam), then log onto the ZenniOptical.com site and start searching for your new glasses!  You can upload a photo of yourself to “try on” glasses, add pairs to your favorites for viewing later and easy ordering.  You can pretty much spend as little (I think they have $6 glasses) or as much as you want.  You can buy just the glasses for super cheap, splurge a little and get a better type of frame material (we both got titanium frames, I believe), add coatings, various sun protections, transition lenses, etc. etc.  We added a couple of features to ours, but we kept it pretty simple.  We had our glasses within 7-10 days from the time of ordering (my sunglasses took a little longer, but only maybe a total of two weeks).

As a reminder, this site does not take or require vision insurance to receive savings—these prices are just their everyday pricing!

We figure, even if we end up having a bad pair, if the customer service doesn’t help, we could buy probably close to five pairs and it still be around what we normally would have spent for one pair in the past.  So far though, all three pairs we have purchased have been great!  Why not give it a shot and try to save some major money??

OH! By the Way!!  If you want to save even more (who doesn’t??), use either ShopAtHome or Ebates!  These are the shop-thru sites that you just click through the site to Zennis and shop like normal to earn additional cash back.  We earned additional money using these on all three pairs of our glasses.  I don’t shop online without these cash back sites, ever.  Even the hubby knows better, LOL!

Good luck!  When you buy glasses, share your photos or your big win stories! Here’s me!
