PRICE GUARANTEE, NOT JUST PRICE MATCH!
I’ve heard of, and even have used price matching between stores, and I have used Paribus to take advantage of price guarantee offers after purchases, but I haven’t ever used this method at a store. Until this week.
We planned to buy a dishwasher from Lowe’s while it was on sale (my hubby was tired of being the dishwasher). Prior to making the purchase, I called Lowe’s to see if they had any upcoming sales and if I should wait a few days to buy (the sale I was going to buy during was ending that day), but the salesperson was unable to help me with this information (unlike JC Penney, where they shared pricing and details over the next couple of weeks). However, the Lowe’s guy did tell me that if I purchased that day and the dishwasher became cheaper within 30 days, then I could go into the store to get refunded the difference.
What?!?! It’s that easy…?!
Sure enough, it is! I checked online a few days after making the purchase and the dishwasher had decreased an additional $70 from the day I bought it. I called the store to see if I could do it over the phone (I couldn’t) and she said to just bring in the flyer or page where I found it cheaper along with my receipt. I printed the online sale page and my receipt, then headed to get the refund! While the refund itself was not an easy process (the cashier didn’t know how to use the new system), the $70 was more than worth the effort!
I know stores do this, I’ve seen other people do it, but I haven’t ever done it myself. Of course, I don’t make large purchases often, but even on small purchases, it does add up. I am going to definitely pay more attention to sales and prices when I do make purchases. Save those receipts for times like this (plus for any future warranty issues). When in doubt, call the company!
Also, check out your credit/bank cards that you use, some of them offer price protection and other services to protect your purchases (some even offer replacement if items are damaged or stolen, like an insurance policy), as well as longer warranties. Be sure to read the fine print!
