June 21st is Father’s Day! It’s almost here! Are you prepared? Have you made plans or purchased a gift yet? If not, you better get to it, it will be here before you know it! To help, here are some great Father’s Day ideas, and primarily affordable (cheap) ones:
-
Go fishing! Take your Dad, some fishing poles, lures or bait and go find a fishing hole somewhere! Don’t forget some snacks and drinks! Most people interested in fishing already have their own gear and a fishing license, so this can be a really inexpensive day trip that is wonderful for creating those lasting memories and ‘fish tales.’ If you go, be sure to share your fish pictures with us!
-
For those who live near water where they have chartered fishing trips, that may be a good option if you don’t enjoy fishing enough to buy your own gear. The chartered trips are usually a lot of fun and they take care of just about everything for you–you just show up and head out with them! Although it appears kind of expensive at first, a charter is not that bad when you consider it is usually a 4 hour trip and they cover all of the gear and licensing. Sometimes you can find a Groupon or Living Social deal to help make it even cheaper.
-
BBQ! Not everyone wants or needs to have a big shindig. Often, spending time in the backyard telling jokes, laughing and barbecuing is more than enough for an awesome Father’s Day celebration. There are a lot of great specials around this time of year for good food, and if you coupon, even better deals! Keep it simple and enjoy each other’s company with a good burger or steak.
-
Do you and your dad ride motorcycles or bicycles? Go find a new trail, either mountain or road, and go exploring! Not only is it practically free, you will get to enjoy the outdoors together and exercise! Of course, I’m sure there won’t be any races or anything…..
-
Along the same lines, go shoot hoops, play tennis, throw a frisbee or football around, just go do something that your Dad loves! Make it like the good ole days when you were a kid, and if that wasn’t a big part of your childhood, start now! It’s never too late to grow a relationship with a parent.
-
Find a spring, river, pool or beach and dive in (OK, OK, only ‘dive’ in if it’s safe)! Enjoy some fun in the sun and make a big splash! Combine it with a BBQ or a picnic lunch–now that’s what I call a great day!
-
Build something. Build a birdhouse, a tree house, a skateboard ramp, a chair, a table, a whatever. If your dad loves to piddle in the shop, go join him! I’m sure there’s some tinkering to do that you both can enjoy, even if you are just the gopher. The important part is to remember that the day is about him, so do something he loves!
-
Work on the car. Yeah, as a non-mechanic minded female, I’m rolling my eyes. However, I understand that guys seem to like to work on cars, or at least appear to be working on cars. Go do your manly stuff. (Insert Tim the Toolman Taylor’s grunt)
-
Of course, for great deals, you can buy fun stuff from Groupon or Living Social for him to use at a later time. Check those sites out and see what’s popular. (Don’t forget to use Ebates for cash back when you use the other sites!)
-
Does he like books? Find a good bookstore or thrift store and stock up on favorites and books he hasn’t read. This will be a great gift
because it will last past Father’s Day. The gift that keeps on giving (for awhile).
-
Painting? Find a good painting or do-it-yourself class in the area! That is sure to bring some laughs (especially if you’re anything like I am when it comes to arts and crafts)!
-
Any good movies out? If so, pick one that he’ll like and enjoy a good film. If not, or you’d rather not go out, download or Netflix some movie favorites and enjoy a marathon. This is even better than going to a movie because you can create your own potty break intermission… I’m just saying…
